BBC's The One Show Stresses Benefits of Powers of Attorney

Date

News Story

Many of our existing clients will over the last year have received mailings from us extolling the virtues of Powers of Attorney.  Many I am pleased to say have taken up reduced cost promotions and now have in place what we feel is a vital part of one's financial planning.

Whilst a will deals with who gets what after you have died, it cannot deal with your affairs whilst you are alive.  So whereas in a will one appoints an Executor to oversee the tying up of your affairs after your death and to ensure your wishes are carried out, a will cannot deal with the increasingly common situation of people who live far longer than before but who suffer from dementia type diseases such as Alzheimer's.

In those types of situation or incapacity due to strokes etc if a loved one is to be able to deal with your financial affairs or you would wish  them to deal with welfare issues including issues such as refusing life support etc, then a Power of Attorney is essential.

Click on the link below to see the article.  Please note that costs in Scotland are less and typically it will cost under £300 to have a Power of Attorney drawn up and registered with the Office of the Public Guardian.

Contact Jim Graham of this office on 01383 629727 to discuss matters more fully.
